Our Mission Statement
The Consejo de Latinos Unidoswas founded in 1998 to assist low income children in getting access to better education and to assist the uninsured in obtaining quality health care.
In the last two years we have become proactive in helping the uninsured deal with excessive hospital bills. A Harvard study on bankruptcies reports that roughly half of all bankruptcies result from medical bills. The other major source of bankruptcy is unemployment, which of course means that income has stopped.
The Consejo de Latinos Unidosis a non-profit organization that seeks to help the uninsured navigate the overwhelming maze of hospital prices. We aim to empower the individual to get equitable treatment in hospital billing. There needs to be transparency in hospital billing. Every citizen can know how much they are being charged and why. Not for profit hospitals should be held to a standard that reflects their non-profit mission.
